In The River - Shrewsbury

This was the feedback from Neville Willerton preaching at Meole Brace in Shrewsbury in February. The Sunday morning preach, was in preparation for a whole parish weekend called 'In The River', in May...

'Thanks for the word you gave. I liked your relaxed way of delivery. I think your message was so appropriate to the people of Christ the King (you without knowing it you prophetically spoke into people's lives). I also think it was very accessible with your use of personal illustration. I received very positive feedback and people were inspired from your talk. I am sure more are going on the weekend because they heard you speak.
Thanks and I am really looking forward to the weekend myself.' Nev

Shrewsbury Weekend

The Anglican Parish of Meole Brace is just on the southern side of Shrewsbury.
The church community has 3 different congregations including a church plant and the local area is mixed community including a tough housing estate.
It was a privilege to be invited to lead a weekend away.
Over 150 people attended the weekend as Martin Garner lead a team of 6 from Sheffield.
Topics covered included faith for Breakthrough, and Building real community.
The weekend proved to be a really powerful time of healing and breakthrough as well as new mission initiates being birthed.

Some Testimonies from the weekend

‘Before I came to the weekend I knew there was something I had to do – but it was frightening.
During the weekend I realised it was not going to be frightening because God would teach me how to do it, and I would not be alone.
Martin and his team inspired me as they shared personal testimony that was so full of the love of God!’     Jill

It was my first Weekend Away because I’d always been in an electronic wheelchair and unable to use the venues. So I was excited about going and just being able to do normal things.
It was a year since Jesus my Saviour healed me of Multiple Sclerosis. I found the weekend so special, and felt it a real privilege to help with Prayer Ministry.
The most special time for me was when Martin came up to me ( we hadn’t met before) and he said 'Do you know that you have the gift of prophecy?’.
I thought I had the gift of encouragement but speaking recently to someone who understands the Gifts I realise that I do have it and have been using it for many years.
I thank God for Martin’s affirmation. It has meant so much and is a great encouragement to me. I just want to do His will and give Him the glory.
Praise Him! Thank you, Martin.     Marianne

The teaching on covenant reminded me of God’s on-going concern to relate to us and especially in the New Covenant that Jesus made with us.
A challenge to ‘walk in the light’ so important in the fellowship of our churches – complete openness with each other in love.

For me the weekend came at the right time after just losing a dear friend. I was able to rest, relax and reflect about my life.
I have always felt an inadequate Christian and at times, because of past mistakes, a not ‘deserving’ one. But the weekend made me realise that we are forgiven our sins and particularly where mine are concerned.
I just hope I continue to be a good person and a good example to my ‘neighbour’.     Megan

‘The Lord met with me showing me the need for repentance, and that I needed to be real about the change of circumstances in my life.
As I was prayed with on the Sunday morning, I was filled by the Holy Spirit in an overwhelming way. This remains with me and has restored the faith I had almost lost.
Martin’s openness about his family life opened the door for me to seek prayer for rejection and guilt, and I give thanks daily for Martin’s honest and open testimony.’

I really appreciated the ministry times. I was prayed for in such a loving way both by the visiting team and by our own members and leaders.
God really spoke deeply to me through them all.’
